Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect from therapy?

Therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming. I aim to create a safe space that is confidential and non-judgemental.

In our initial assessment we will explore the reasons you have come to therapy, work together to identify the source of the difficulties you are experiencing and how you are currently managing these difficulties. The assessment will also explore your past experiences, any therapy or counselling you have had previously, and your treatment goals. From here, we will decide if we would be suitable to work together in ongoing one-to-one therapy.

Therapy can be difficult. It will require you to look at and sit with uncomfortable thoughts, memories, emotions and behaviour, and to make active changes. You will be asked to challenge some of the ideas you hold about yourself, others and the world. This will involve practicing skills outside of sessions. It is important that you are committed and motivated to complete any tasks we set together in order to see change and progress. If you feel you would benefit more from an open space where you can talk about your difficulties without needing to implement active change, then counselling may be a more suitable approach. If you are unsure, please contact me for a free consultation where we can discuss this further.

What type of therapy do you offer?

I draw from a variety of different therapeutic approaches based on the difficulties we are working on and the goals you have in mind. Some of the therapies I commonly draw from are: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness, Systemic Therapy.

How long are therapy sessions?

Each session typically lasts up to one hour (sixty minutes). We can discuss longer or shorter sessions based on need. The number of sessions required will vary for each person, and this is something we will review at regular intervals to ensure that you are making the progress you would like to make, and to ensure that therapy is still helpful for you.

What difficulties or problems do you work with?

I work with adults who are 18 years and over, who may be experiencing difficulties such as: anxiety, depression, difficulties managing emotions, low self esteem, panic attacks, phobias and trauma. This list is not exhaustive, and I would encourage you to book in for a free consultation so we can discuss whether I can support you.
